Once you've logged in to the myUSO site, you will have a small number of tabs visible to you.

One of the tabs always available is the Library, which contains a number of carefully selected links.

From this starting point, you can configure a variety of views for your pupils and other staff members.

When configuring a view for your pupils, you can select just a handful of the resources which are relevant to them based on year or class.

If you work for more than one school you will be able to configure a different set of links for the pupils in each school.

To create additional tabs and configure links within them, click Edit links below your name at the top of the page.

Once you are in Edit mode, your view will change slightly and you will be able to create more tabs and control their visibility.

There is also a tick box that allows you to Show library tab to pupils, and Show apps.lgfl.org.uk tab to pupils. You can tick either or both of these boxes. When ticked this will mean that all pupils will see whichever tab you have said and ALL the links within it. If left unticked, the tabs will not be visible when a pupil logs in. Please note: the Library and apps.lgfl.org.uk links cannot be modified.

Click the + symbol to create a new tab.

When creating a new tab you will need to enter a title and specify the visibility requirements

The Title field requires that you name the new tab. The name you enter will appear on the tab to the intended audience.

The Visible to field controls who will see this tab.

By default the visibility option is Everyone. If you would like to target a tab to specific group of people, select Other.

Once you click Other, a range of options will become visible and you will be able to select a year group or even a specific class. You can also create a tab visible only to Staff by selecting Other and then ticking Staff.

Tick the year(s) or class(es) to whom this tab will be visible.

If you have the option to select classes, this information comes directly from your school's MIS. These are imported into USO through a secure process called AutoUpdate and the information is automatically updated on a regular basis.

Click Save.

Once saved, a new tab appears in the view and you can configure the links which should appear there.

click to viewConfiguring links within tabs

There are 2 ways to add links to a group depending on the link type.

The 2 link types are:

Preconfigured links found in the Library tab
Links to any relevant sites of your choice.

Adding preconfigured links

A set of preconfigured links is shown in the Library tab.

To use these presets, you can click on each item you wish to add to another tab.

First, go to the Library tab.

Scroll through the icons to find the first one that is required.

Click on the icon for a selected resource or service.

A popup will open. Use this to specify the tabs where you would like this link to appear

The title, description and URL link will already be entered and will not be changeable.

All you need to do is specify in which tab it should appear.

To make this happen simply tick the boxes for the relevant tab(s). All tabs you have created will be available as choices. You can add a link to multiple tabs with just this one action.

In the example illustrated, the tab is called "Year 5".

This will automatically ensure that only year 5 pupils will see this tab and the links when they log in.

In the current setup, any pupil from a different year who logs in will see nothing.

As soon as you click Save, the link will appear in the relevant tab.

You may add as many links as required using the method described above or use the New link button to add a link to resources not found in the Library.

You may add as many links as required in this manner.

Adding your own links to any web service

To configure any other links within a tab, select the relevant tab and then click New link.

A popup will open.

You will need to enter a title for the link, a short description and the URL (web address). Entering http:// is not necessary but www should be entered if the website address contains this element.

The Image refers to an icon which will need to be added for the link. This icon can either be obtained directly from the website (the system does this automatically) or alternatively, you can upload your own image instead.

To make it visible to specific pupil groups simply tick the boxes for the relevant tab(s). All tabs you have created will be available as choices. You can add a link to multiple tabs with just this one action.

Click Save.

The new link will appear in the list.

To change the order in which items are listed, left-click and hold down your mouse button on the icon you wish to move. While the button is held down, drag the icon to a different location. Release the mouse button.

When you have finished, click Exit edit mode below your name to be able to click on the links and open the associated websites.

Deleting tabs and content

A tab can be deleted only when there is nothing configured inside it. Therefore, to delete a tab you must first remove links to all the resources.

Links need to be deleted one at a time.

You must first enter the Edit mode by clicking on Edit links. Then select the relevant tab.

Deleting links to general web-based resources

To delete a link to a web resource click on the icon.

This will open the details of that link. Click the Delete button at the bottom of the popup window.

This will remove the link from the tab.

Deleting links to items found in the Library

To remove a pre-configured link that has been added from the Library click on the relevant icon.

This will open up the options for this link. To remove the link, un-tick the tick box for the tab you no longer what the link to be shown in.

Once all of the links in a tab have been removed, the tab itself can then be deleted.

To do this simply click on the Delete tab button which will become available when the tab is empty.

This will delete the tab completely.

Assistance on using these features is available via the Atomwide Help Desk.
